In the province of Salta, a summary process has concluded that investigated the conduct of a group of teachers who stopped teaching for more than 130 days in 2023, causing considerable economic harm to the state. According to allegations, there were officials who improperly appropriated resources intended for schools, especially those attended by Wichí children.
Sergio Heredia, lawyer for the affected families, filed a criminal complaint against the Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology of Salta, Cristina Fiore, for not excusing herself from participating in the summary process, which he considers a lack of impartiality. Heredia represents the majority of the dismissed teachers and has alleged that the process was tainted with nullities and was supervised by the Executive.
The lawyer pointed out that, despite the defenses and evidence presented by the teachers, the dismissals were carried out with the support of the governor and the minister's signature. The case of Valentín Guzmán, a student who died after falling into a blind well at the Nevado de Acay School, is highlighted, an incident that was among the complaints presented by the protesters.
The tent in Plaza 9 de Julio continues to symbolize the fight for adequate working and building conditions. Heredia plans to publicly present the stories of the dismissed teachers to make their testimonies visible. Furthermore, the progress of legal actions is being evaluated, and the legality of the dismissals is questioned, considering them a retaliation aimed at inhibiting future protests by teachers.
