Salta clan sentenced to 13 years

Six members of a family clan involved in drug trafficking and money laundering were sentenced to up to 13 years in prison. Federal Court No. 2 in Salta handed down the judgment after a probe by the National Narcotic Criminality Office (PROCUNAR) and the regional NOA office.

The clan had operated for 14 years, shipping up to 100 kilograms of cocaine to various provinces. Judge Gabriela Catalano imposed the sentences and ordered the confiscation of money, four properties and 14 vehicles. The group’s leader, Emanuel Gabriel Cala, received the maximum 13‑year sentence.

"The sentence was unified to 15 years because of a prior criminal proceeding," the judge said. "The punishment reflects the seriousness of the crime and the organization’s involvement."

In addition, three properties in Salta and one in Córdoba, nine vehicles, and more than 8.5 billion pesos – including funds held in bank accounts – were seized. The conviction also affected the leader’s partner and children, who will receive three‑year conditional sentences.
