The Municipality of Quilmes reported that the construction of the new building for Secondary School No. 8 is progressing «at a good pace». This work was supervised on Tuesday by the interim mayor, Eva Mieri, who toured the facility and greeted the workers.
«Together with the government of the Province of Buenos Aires, we are going to value these four classrooms so that teachers and students can return to inhabit this school in a dignified manner,» stated Mieri during the tour, accompanied by the Secretary of Education and Culture, Evangelina Ramírez, according to the official communication.
In the same vein, Ramírez emphasized that infrastructure improvements impact the pedagogical process and assured that the local administration—with Mayra Mendoza on leave and Mieri as interim head of the commune—maintains public education as a «fundamental pillar» not only for the future but also in the present.
For his part, the provincial Undersecretary of School Infrastructure, Ariel Lambezat, pointed out that the tasks are part of a «joint» work with districts, municipalities, and school councils to respond to community demands and ensure schools are «dignified, safe, and habitable,» always in accordance with what the authorities have reported.
According to what Argentine News Agency learned, the construction of the new building had been paralyzed by the National Government at the beginning of the current administration, and for this reason, the Municipality and the Province decided to resume the work within the 2025–2027 Educational Infrastructure Program.
Specifically, the project contemplates the construction of four new classrooms, with a capacity for 30 students and 15 desks each, which will allow connecting the new building with the old one and improving the conditions for the development of classes.
It is also expected that the classrooms and dependencies will have mobile equipment to start the activity «immediately» once the work is finished.
It was also reported that the existing space for the library will be adapted, which presents humidity and leaks, a situation that today makes it incompatible with its use.
In parallel, Secondary School No. 8—which has 376 students and whose director is César Vilches—received funding from the Quilmes Cooperap program for the «Science Club» project, with the objective of advancing the creation of a school laboratory. According to the official detail, for that laboratory, various supplies and materials were acquired, including a cabinet, scales, lab coats, a projector, laboratory containers, thermometers, blackboards, and stationery items, among others.
The tour was also attended by the Undersecretary of Education, Florencia Sierra; the Undersecretary of Food Service and School Maintenance, Miguel Centurión; the president of the School Board, Gustavo Lappano, and representatives of SUTEBA, among others.
