Unlicensed Nursing Home Shut Down in Argentina

An unlicensed nursing home in the province of Misiones was shut down due to serious irregularities in its operating conditions, and the adults there had to be relocated to other institutions.

The case began after a complaint was filed on January 19 at the 15th police station by a local resident. She reported that while driving past a house, she saw an elderly person coming out who was asking for help and asking to call the police.

This led to various investigations, which resulted in an operation at a home located in block 12 of the San Isidro neighborhood. It involved officers from Regional Unit X and various departments of the Posadas Municipality.

During the procedure, the Secretariat of Health and Human Development and the Directorate of Safety and Human Pollution Control intervened, where they confirmed that an unlicensed nursing home was operating in the building.

They also detected that the place did not have municipal authorization and lacked the minimum required conditions for the care of the elderly. It also lacked emergency exits and proper medical controls, the Argentine News Agency learned.

Faced with the situation, an immediate order was given to close the facility and relocate the people staying there.

Some patients were returned to their families, while others were transferred to the Public Geriatric Home of Miguel LanĂºs, remaining under protection and specialized care.
