Sentencing of Brothers in Child Exploitation Case

Two Argentine brothers were sentenced for crimes related to child sexual abuse. The Posadas Court set the penalty based on the vulnerability of the victims, the abuse of power, manipulative behaviors, and the educational and socioeconomic environment. Germán received 14 years in prison, while Sebastián was sentenced to 12 years. In a subsequent hearing, Sebastián's lawyer expressed her discontent with the sentence, arguing that her clients "didn't kill anyone" and "they have harsher sentences than some homicides."

The lawyer pointed out that her clients were convicted for possession and distribution of child exploitation material, aggravated by the fact that the victims were under 13 years old and for sexual abuse without carnal access, in a real competition. She emphasized that the questionable videos remain online and that technically, watching them is not a crime according to Article 128.

Additionally, the lawyer mentioned that it is unknown who created the material found and where it came from. This situation generated controversy, as the defense believes the sentence was excessive compared to other more serious crimes. The case highlights the complexity of addressing these crimes in a context where digital material is widely shared online without knowing its origin or veracity.
