A 75-year-old retiree shot and killed a criminal who had broken into his home with the intent to rob, in an incident that occurred on Tuesday in the town of Moreno, in western Buenos Aires. The incident took place at a property on 12 de Octubre street at number 5,000, when Antonio Enrique was sleeping and heard strange noises. He got up—with a firearm in his possession—and came face to face with the intruder, whom he shot twice. One shot hit the criminal in the arm and another in the abdomen, causing him to fall seriously wounded and die shortly after. Following a call to 911, personnel from the Moreno First Police Station arrived at the scene, whose officers ordered the intruder to be taken to a nearby hospital. The attacker, for his part, was only briefly detained and, for the moment, has been exempt from other charges. The thief, identified as Fernando Vega (40 years old), was wearing latex gloves and had forced a back door to enter the home. Additionally, he had criminal charges for threats, qualified robbery, deprivation of liberty, and attempted evasion. Meanwhile, and according to the police report accessed by Noticias Argentinas, 'the victim turns out to be a legitimate user of a firearm,' although the weapon was seized by the authorities.
