An American Airlines plane, carrying 214 passengers from Argentina to Miami, was forced to return to Ezeiza International Airport after the pilot detected a smell of smoke, according to official sources on Saturday. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8, issued an emergency signal while flying over Asuncion, Paraguay, expressing concern about the possible presence of smoke in the cabin and decided to return to Buenos Aires.
The National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) reported that it activated the Emergency Plan of the Ministro Pistarini International Airport of Ezeiza in response to the emergency declaration of flight AAL908 of American Airlines. After the landing of the aircraft, accompanied by rescue and firefighting services, it was indicated that there were no incidents and the disembarkation of passengers was carried out without issues.
In this context, the quick response of the Firefighting and Rescue Service (SEI) and Ground Control (CONTER) is highlighted, activating the necessary procedures to ensure the safety of the landing. Once the aircraft has been inspected and the causes of the incident determined, it will be the airline's responsibility to decide whether the flight continues to Miami.
The communication issued by ANAC emphasizes that the return of the aircraft to the Argentine airport was carried out with all necessary precautions, without any risk situations for the occupants of the plane. Moreover, it highlights that the emergency signal used, designated as 'PAN PAN', indicates a need for assistance but poses no imminent danger to passengers and crew.
