A fierce fire broke out on Friday night in a warehouse in the industrial area of Ezeiza, starting at the premises of the company Logischem and spreading to several nearby companies. Among the affected companies are Iron Mountain, Larroca Minera, Almacén de Frío, Aditivos Alimentarios, and Sinteplast, causing significant damage to the facilities and affecting nearby homes.
The authorities have not yet been able to determine the cause of the fire, as the official investigation has been postponed until Monday. Over 500 workers, along with 70 fire brigades, are participating in the operation, supported by ambulances, the Federal Police, the Bonaerense Police, and Civil Defense personnel.
Florencia Belloc, prosecutor of UFI 1 in Ezeiza, will lead the investigation together with firefighters and the Scientific Police. Roberto Weiss, president of the Ezeiza Industrial Union, described the fire as "dantesque" and noted that the fire destroyed structures and chemical materials from several companies.
The director of the Buenos Aires provincial Civil Defense, Fabián García, clarified that there was no risk of a toxic cloud for the population, but warned about suspended particles in the air that could affect health in case of prolonged exposure.
Meanwhile, residents in areas far from the fire told Argentine news outlets that due to the magnitude of the tragedy, they could also feel the effects of the fire.
This is the case of Noelia Gonzalez, who lives in Montegrande and explains her experience of what happened:
"I live relatively far from the affected area, but I was at home and at the very moment the explosion occurred, the windows of my apartment started to vibrate. It seemed strange to me, so I went on social media to investigate and I came across the news," she states.
