Major Fire in Ezeiza

A major fire broke out this evening in the town of Ezeiza, in the province of Buenos Aires. The flames began around 21:00 in a wheat field in an area surrounded by pastures and woods, near the Atómica nuclear power plant, the AFA headquarters, and the international airport. According to Horacio Rodríguez, head of the Ezeiza Fire Department, the fire was 'contained' a few hours later, causing alarm among local residents. 'The fire started in a wheat field,' Rodríguez told Noticias Argentinas. 'It affected a sector of pastures, and two precarious, abandoned houses were burned, but there is no danger. There were no evacuees or significant damage.' He also stated that he did not know the origin of the fire and warned that 'we must wait for the expert reports.' Nine fire brigades from Ezeiza and nearby localities worked at the scene. This fire has once again raised concerns among residents, 40 days after a voracious fire that occurred very close by, in the Spegazzini industrial area, which required a massive deployment of forces to bring it under control.
