Explosions at Industrial Plant in Ezeiza Leave 20 Injured

A series of powerful explosions shook the Carlos Spegazzini Industrial Park in Ezeiza on Friday night, causing a major fire. According to initial reports, the incident left at least 20 injured, including an executive who suffered a heart attack and a pregnant woman who was poisoned and is in intensive care. According to Noticias Argentinas, the blaze is believed to have originated at a chemical or agrochemical company, but the shockwave and fire affected several neighboring factories, including a plastic packaging company called "Plásticos Lagos". Consequently, authorities are evacuating families living in the surrounding area. The mayor of Ezeiza also commented on reports of an aircraft crash: "We cannot confirm or deny that a plane fell." Carlos Santoro, director of the Montegrande Clinic, confirmed the severity of the emergency: "We are receiving patients, we are on red code. Burn victims and those injured by glass are arriving." Around 11:10 PM, Santoro confirmed to the same channel the admission of two serious patients: "We received a patient with a heart attack, an executive from a logistics company in the area, he is in the ICU... We also have a pregnant woman who was poisoned from a nearby neighborhood... she is in intensive care." He detailed that the injured are not just workers, but "people from nearby neighborhoods who were injured by broken window glass." More than 20 fire brigades are working at the scene along with Civil Defense and the Federal Police's Special Risks Brigade. The mayor of Ezeiza, Gastón Granados, described the situation as chaotic: "Everything is very confusing, there was a strong explosion in the Spegazzini industrial park." In an interview with C5N, the local official warned: "We are trying to control it, but we can't." Granados confirmed that the shockwave was devastating: "The windows of my house and the neighborhood exploded." He also reported that "four were sutured and we discharged them." A mega-health operation and a total closure of the highway have been implemented. The Ministry of Health of the Province of Buenos Aires activated a mega-operation with 12 provincial and 15 mobile units. A triage system was established to direct the injured according to their severity: Orange and Red Codes (Serious): Bicentenario Hospital (E. Echeverría), Eurnekian Hospital (Ezeiza), and Balestrini Hospital (La Matanza). Green and Yellow Codes (Minor): Grierson Hospital (P. Perón) and Néstor Kirchner Hospital (Cañuelas). At the transportation level, the Cañuelas-Ezeiza Highway remains completely closed to facilitate the emergency operation.
