The search for Loan Danilo Peña in the province of Corrientes has taken a turn with the participation of Nicolás Gabriel Soria, also known as "the American." Soria, who decided to settle in Argentina to be closer to his mother, arrived in Corrientes to assist in the search for the small child approximately 15 days after his disappearance was reported. On his first day in the province, Soria had the opportunity to visit Loan's grandmother's house, even though it should have been a secured area in the case. Over time, he established communication with key individuals in the case, such as Camila, Loan's cousin, and Macarena, Laudelina's oldest daughter. The American managed to meet these women, although controversies arose about how he obtained information from Macarena to include in a document.
Soria's presence in a hotel where other people related to the case were staying led to a raid and caused tensions with the authorities. As a result, multiple charges were brought against him, although some of them were later reduced. The American remains detained while other accused individuals in the parallel case regained their freedom.
Lawyer Sonia López defends Soria and argues that her client is suffering an anticipatory sentence in a process aimed at proving his innocence. With the presentation of irrefutable evidence in an extensive document, they hope that the investigative hearing they will attend can clarify the events. This process is taking place in the Goya Court in the presence of several relevant judicial figures.
According to López, Soria's detention seems to rely on a possible drug-related lead in a case where there are numerous accused linked to the Dupuy Foundation. Despite the accusations against him, the defense of the American seeks to demonstrate that errors have been made in the process that have led to his unjust criminalization.
