Federal prosecutor Carlos Schaefer has requested the Federal Court of Appeals of Corrientes to confirm the preventive detention of all those involved in the disappearance of Loan Danilo Peña, a five-year-old boy, in El Algarrobal on June 13 of last year.
During his presentation, the prosecutor accused Commissioner Maciel of facilitating the cover-up by not acting appropriately in the search for Loan. Traces of the boy were found in the vehicles of the accused Pérez and Caillava, leading to their arrests. Searches in the area confirmed that Loan did not leave on his own, strengthening the abduction theory.
Schaefer detailed that Loan may have been kidnapped by Pérez and Caillava with the help of other accomplices, including Bernardino Benítez, Daniel Oscar Ramírez, Mónica Millapi, Laudelina Peña, and Commissioner Walter Maciel. The prosecutor emphasized that there is no evidence to support the threats allegedly received by Laudelina.
The prosecutor stressed that the evidence clearly indicates that Loan was not the victim of an accident and compared his disappearance to the case of Margarita Belén, suggesting a similar pattern. Schaefer pointed out that releasing the accused could hinder investigations to find the boy and highlighted the seriousness of the case that has caused social upheaval.
Confirmation of the preventive detentions has been requested due to the ongoing and permanent nature of the crime. The search for Loan remains a priority for the authorities, while it is noted that some accused attempted to obstruct the investigation by planting evidence at the scene and coordinating the abduction to cover up their actions.
