The Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF) confirmed in the last few hours the identities of two more missing persons, who were buried clandestinely on a military property known as La Perla, in the La Calera area, about 20 kilometers from this city. These are Eduardo Valverde and Adriana or Cecilia Carranza, who, being twins, have almost identical DNA and for this reason the specialists have not yet been able to determine to whom the remains found belong. Likewise, this week the identities of Mario Nivoli, Raúl Ceballos, Ramiro Bustillo and Oscar Omar Reyes had been confirmed, so there are now six people formally identified out of the twelve found in that military facility. The identification was achieved through genetic studies carried out by the Forensic Anthropology Team, as part of an investigation led by Court Number 3 of Córdoba, headed by Hugo Vaca Narvaja. Valverde was from Mendoza, but he studied Law at the National University of Córdoba, was a delegate for different university federations and also defended political prisoners. According to the HIJOS organization, they captured him when he appeared to respond to a summons on March 24, 1976. He was married and the father of two sons. Meanwhile, one of the Carranza twins was identified; they were kidnapped at the same time on May 15, 1976, when they were only 18 years old: "They found a tooth that belongs to one of you; we cannot know to which one. Life gives us today an important certainty, but also a giant doubt," stated HIJOS in a statement. According to what the Noticias Argentinas agency learned, La Perla, which was under the command of military man Luciano Benjamín Menéndez, was one of the largest detention centers in the country and began operating in 1976, shortly after the coup against the government of María Estela Martínez de Perón. It is estimated that around 2,500 people were held there clandestinely, most of them disappeared. It is located at kilometer 12.5 of Route 20 and is currently a space for memory and the promotion of Human Rights, with various activities, permanent exhibitions and guided tours.
