Fourth Victim from La Perla Identified in Argentina

Buenos Aires, March 14 (NA) – Raúl Oscar Ceballos Cantónes is the fourth man identified among the remains of 12 missing persons found buried on the property known as La Perla, in the La Calera area, Córdoba province. According to the HIJOS association, the 23-year-old was illegally deprived of his freedom on August 26, 1976, during the last civic-military dictatorship and remained in captivity at the clandestine center 'Campo de la Ribera' and later at La Perla. Born on June 10, 1953, and father of Gladys Elizabeth, Ceballos Cantón was a merchant, studied engineering, and worked at the Fiat Matafer plant. This is the fourth victim found on that property after the identities of Mario Nívoli, Ramiro Bustillo Rubio, and Oscar Omar Reyes were confirmed. The analyses are carried out by the Argentine Team of Forensic Anthropology (EAAF). La Perla, which was under the command of military man Luciano Benjamín Menéndez, was one of the largest detention centers in the country and began operating in 1976, shortly after the Coup d'état against the government of María Estela Martínez de Perón. It is estimated that around 2,500 people were held there clandestinely, most of them disappeared. It is located at kilometer 12.5 of Route 20 and is currently a space for memory and the promotion of Human Rights, with various activities, permanent exhibitions, and guided visits.
