Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Femicide in Córdoba

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Argentine province of Córdoba for the femicide of his ex-partner, which occurred in November 2023. The court determined that the accused exerted violence "in all its forms".

According to the trial, Alejandro Jesús Quinteros invited the victim and her son to dinner at a restaurant in Caleta Oliva. During the meal, he drugged her drink. Afterwards, the three went to the woman's home in Oncativo, where Gancedo lost consciousness due to the drug's effects. There, the accused suffocated her with a pillow or a sheet in her own bed.

Judicial authorities stated that the criminal plan ended with the body being moved to a field located about 19 kilometers from Oncativo, where it was buried.

In the verdict, Judge Sebastián Romero pointed out that Quinteros had used violence against his ex-partner "in all its forms": physical, psychological, sexual, economic, and symbolic. "He humiliated and mistreated her in a grave, systematic, and escalating manner, until reaching the most extreme expression of gender-based violence: femicide," he stated.

It was also revealed that the accused used the victim's cell phone for several days, pretending to be her and responding to messages to confuse her family and people in her circle who were searching for her.

"The femicide occurred in the presence of her son, who was present at the scene of one of the events and lived in an environment of violence, manipulation, and fear."
