A 49-year-old police sergeant and his 42-year-old brother were sentenced to six years of conditional compliance for killing a dog last December in the southern part of Córdoba, in the yard of a house in the Arroyito neighborhood. The cruel act involved finishing off a greyhound with a brick and then shooting it. Neighbors witnessed the incident, leading to a thorough investigation that culminated in the sentencing.
Judge Sebastián Moro, in charge of the case, decided to establish specific behavioral rules for the brothers for two years, in addition to imposing regular psychological treatment that they must report monthly to the execution court, as deemed appropriate by the responsible professional. The convicted are currently under the supervision of the Security Forces Conduct Tribunal.
In the judicial process, the magistrate had the participation of an animal protection society as a private plaintiff, under the provisions of Law 14.346, known as the Sarmiento Law, which penalizes acts of animal cruelty. The judge's resolution was reached through an initial abbreviated trial, following the appropriate summons.
The sentence imposed on the brothers includes not only the suspended sentence but also special obligations for monitoring and psychological treatment, seeking to ensure compliance with conditions that promote reflection and reparation for the harm caused.
