Organ and tissue donation has significantly increased in the province of Córdoba, with growth reaching 92% in 2025 compared to the previous year. A total of 113 operations were performed, up from 98 in 2024. According to a statement from the Córdoba Organ and Tissue Procurement and Implantation Coordinator (Ecodaic), the number of corneal tissue donors rose from 26 to 50, marking a 92% increase. Health professionals conducted 63 organ operations and 50 corneal tissue transplants. These transplants saved and improved the quality of life for over 280 people on the waiting list, including 25 children. Romina Quiroga, director of Ecodaic, stated that the increase is linked to improved detection processes in various clinical units, including intensive care therapies. Unlike solid organs, corneal donation does not require specific and complex death criteria. "This achievement reflects the commitment of a trained health team capable of detecting every donation opportunity, even in the most difficult moments, and thus transforming pain into hope," she explained. Quiroga also "recognized the donors, their families, and the collaborative work of public and private health centers across the province," concluding, "When society unites for a human purpose, life always wins." Nationally, a historical record was set, surpassing pandemic-era figures, with 906 donation processes and 1,242 transplants performed.
