Early Sunday morning, a fatal traffic accident shocked the city of Córdoba. Around 3 AM, a rear-end collision at the intersection of General Manuel Savio and Diego de Funes y Salinas streets resulted in two fatalities. According to initial expert reports, a black Renault Clio was traveling in the area when it was hit from behind by a Toyota Hilux SW4. The impact was so severe that the smaller vehicle was completely destroyed and knocked off the road. The driver, a 46-year-old man, and his 41-year-old female passenger died instantly due to the severity of their injuries. Upon arrival, emergency medical services could only confirm the death of the couple. The driver of the SUV, a 28-year-old young man, suffered various facial injuries. He was taken to San Roque Hospital, where he is out of danger but under strict police custody by order of the judiciary. At the scene, the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit and forensic personnel worked to take the corresponding measurements. The violence of the crash caused the Clio driver to lose control of the vehicle, crashing head-on into a wooden post located by the roadside. Investigators are focusing their efforts on determining the speed at which the Hilux was traveling and whether there were external factors that triggered the rear-end collision. In the coming hours, the surviving driver will undergo the standard alcohol and toxicology tests.
