A retired police officer from the Buenos Aires Police shot a criminal who attempted to rob his motorcycle in Cañuelas. The 55-year-old man was riding with his partner on a Honda Twister 250cc motorcycle on Saturday around 10:00 PM when four motorcycle thieves intercepted them on Rojas Street between Allende and Route 205.
The criminals surrounded the retired man, who lost control of the motorcycle and fell to the ground with his wife. One of the assailants quickly approached them, aiming a firearm. The ex-police officer drew his weapon, a Tanfoglio Force caliber 9 millimeters, and fired twice, fatally wounding the criminal in the chest as he attempted to flee.
The fallen thief was identified as Kevin Mancilla, 19 years old, a resident of Tristán Suárez. The accomplices abandoned their fallen partner on the ground and fled. Local police and an ambulance from SAME confirmed the death of the assailant at the scene.
The ex-police officer and his partner were taken to the hospital with minor injuries sustained during the motorcycle fall, with no danger to their lives. The case was recorded as "Homicide," but the ex-police officer was not arrested as it was deemed an act of legitimate self-defense. The Functional Instruction Unit number 1 of Cañuelas, from the Judicial Department of La Plata, is in charge of the investigation.
