A police officer from Cañuelas has been removed from service and faces a criminal case for firing a shotgun into the air during Christmas celebrations. The video of the officer's unusual actions came to light following an incident in which a minor was injured by a stray bullet in Villa Sarmiento. A few days ago, a video went viral showing a 22-year-old officer from the 1st Police Station in Cañuelas. In the middle of Christmas festivities, he grabbed a shotgun and from the parking lot of the station, fired at least four shots into the air. In the clip that the officer himself posted on his social networks, he is seen in civilian clothes as he fires two shots into the air, then reloads and fires two more. The media outlet InfoCañuelas confirmed that this weekend, following the controversy, Commissioner Fabián Ernesto Rolón initiated an administrative summary against the young man. In turn, the General Audit of Internal Affairs (AGAI) of the Buenos Aires Police ordered his immediate removal from service, and he could be definitively expelled from the Buenos Aires force, according to the Argentine News Agency.
Authorities explained that the officer used anti-riot projectiles, which have a low gunpowder charge, but it was still a prohibited maneuver that could have caused injuries or even the death of a neighbor. Regarding the criminal case against him, they indicated that it is for the crime of abuse of weapons.
