A couple formed by two women and their five-year-old daughter was physically and verbally assaulted by a neighbor in the neighborhood, despite the fact that he already had several reports for harassment of private property. The couple had moved to a house in Cañuelas three years ago, and since then they had faced harassment from the man.
In an interview, one of the affected women explained that, despite having reported the man several times, they never received a response or support from the authorities. They expressed their outrage and distress at the situation of violence they were experiencing, highlighting that it is unnecessary and goes against anti-fascist and anti-racist discourses.
The situation came to the attention of the LGBTQI+ federation, who issued a statement on social media to denounce the act of violence suffered by the women. The couple, with the support of their collective, decided to make their story public in the hope of obtaining media support and prompting the relevant authorities to take action.
The couple's lawyer, Mayra, detailed that the report was filed, but they were still waiting for the arrest of the aggressor, who had violated multiple restraining orders. The couple was residing in a relative's home out of fear of retaliation while continuing to fight for justice.
The women recounted how the harassment had escalated to the burning of their home, which occurred in the early morning of January 29. Fortunately, they were not home at that time, but the attack caused the loss of their only home. They expressed their desire for the responsible party to face the consequences of their actions and for justice to be served.
Amid the traumatic situation, the couple showed determination to continue fighting, emphasizing the importance of visibility and resistance against violence. They expressed their concern about the impunity with which the aggressor acted and the lack of response from the relevant authorities.
