A man was found dead today in the Paulino Island area of the Buenos Aires town of Berisso while swimming in a zone not suitable or authorized for such activity, as it is a navigation channel, authorities confirmed. From Civil Defense, its director Roberto Scafat emphasized a key point of the case: swimming is "expressly prohibited" in the area where the incident occurred. The Scientific Police was also called in, while the case was taken over by La Plata's UFI No. 12. "It is not a permitted beach", but a navigation channel, located about 600 meters from the allowed area, and has visible signs warning against entering the water due to the danger posed by boat traffic and strong currents. According to information from police sources at the First Police Station of Berisso, the incident became known after a call reported a body in the island settlement, presumably as a result of drowning in the river. Officers and Civil Defense personnel who went to the place found the body lying on the coast, covered with a towel and with no vital signs, so the justice system is investigating the case as 'Death Cause Investigation', according to the Noticias Argentinas agency. The deceased was identified as Ariel Alejandro GarcĂa Cipolla, 47, with a home address in the town of Estanislao Severo Zeballos, in the district of Florencio Varela. According to the testimony collected, the man would have jumped into the river with the intention of cooling off during an overwhelming day, but at one point he was lost from view by his relatives. A few minutes later, they managed to rescue him from the water and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers, but with no positive results. In view of the situation, the presence of the SAME was requested, and the doctors confirmed the death.
