Controversy Over Argentina's UN Vote

An influential official shared that the recent UN vote regarding Cuba caught the Argentine Presidency off guard, indicating a lack of collaboration within the government. The former chancellor's decision sparked debate over foreign policy alignment with the US and implications for the Malvinas issue.

Controversy Over Argentina's UN Vote

A senior official with an office in Casa Rosada provided details about the internal process in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that led to the UN vote resulting in the removal of Chancellor Diana Mondino. According to their statements to journalists at Balcarce 50, outside the Ministry, neither the President nor the Chief of Staff had prior knowledge of this vote.

The source dismissed the theory that Mondino acted deliberately to be removed from her position, stating that she wanted to remain Chancellor. Regarding the justification behind the vote in favor of Cuba, they indicated that the Government prioritizes its rejection of dictatorships and alignment with the United States and Israel over other considerations.

It was clarified that Mondino maintained Argentina's historical position on the embargo against Cuba without consulting the Presidency, which was considered a mistake that cost her the position. Regarding the election of a new ambassador to the United States, a decision will wait for the outcome of the presidential elections in that country.

Despite her dismissal, the libertarian sector did not show hostility toward Mondino, highlighting her as a valuable leader and leaving open the possibility that she could continue to play a role in La Libertad Avanza in the future. Although the possibility of Mondino being a legislative candidate next year is raised, it was emphasized that there is still much to define regarding the electoral lists for 2025.
