Omar Maturano, general secretary of the train drivers' union La Fraternidad, expressed his concern about possible changes in the company Trenes Argentinos, which could lead to concessions or privatizations. Maturano mentioned that the unofficial information they have points towards this scenario, which could result in a significant increase in ticket prices, reaching up to six times their current value.
The union leader highlighted that currently, train services show deficiencies in safety, even warning about these conditions before the tragic accident in Palermo. Maturano also criticized the airing of messages considered as government propaganda in the stations, referring to them as "government spots" and stating that if they had mentioned his name instead of other union leaders, there would be no problems.
Maturano emphasized that the train drivers' union La Fraternidad does not force anyone to participate in strikes, but that union verticality is essential. He explained that the strike was aimed at stopping the cutbacks that, according to him, the Government is imposing on formal workers. During the strike, he reported that the majority of transportation services were affected by 80%, with buses operating with few passengers in some cases and long waits in certain localities.
