Argentina Votes Against US Embargo on Cuba

The Argentine government, led by President Javier Milei, defied expectations and voted against the US embargo on Cuba at the UN General Assembly. This decision comes as new foreign minister Gerardo Werthein takes over from Diana Mondino, amid internal criticism and political tensions.

Argentina Votes Against US Embargo on Cuba

The President of the Nation, Javier Milei, has requested the resignation of Chancellor Diana Mondino, who has been dismissed due to Argentina's vote at the United Nations against the embargo imposed by the United States and other Western countries on Cuba. Mondino, who had significant differences with Milei's close circle, will leave her position and be replaced by the current ambassador to the United States, Gerardo Werthein.

The resolution presented by Havana at the UN headquarters in New York, titled "Need to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the U.S.", was overwhelmingly approved by the United Nations General Assembly, marking the 32nd time this has been voted on. Despite Milei's critical stance towards the UN and his views on socialist regimes like the Cuban one, the Argentinian government voted against the embargo, which Cuba refers to as a "blockade".

The announcement of Diana Mondino's departure was followed by a social media post from Manuel Adorni, who mentioned that Gerardo Werthein will take over as the new chancellor of the Argentine Republic. Mondino's dismissal occurs amid strong criticisms and internal disagreements within the Government, especially with figures close to Javier Milei such as Karina Milei and Santiago Caputo.

In summary, the United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution urging the end of the U.S. embargo on Cuba, while Argentina experiences a change in the Foreign Ministry with Diana Mondino's exit and Gerardo Werthein's assumption as the new head of the position.
