Omar de Marchi, former Secretary of Parliamentary Relations of the Government, left his position to assume the vice-presidency of Aerolíneas Argentinas at a time when libertarian management is pushing for the privatization of the company. De Marchi will be responsible for the reorganization and enhancement of the state-owned company with a view to its eventual sale.
De Marchi, from the PRO party and former mayor of Luján de Cuyo, had faced difficulties in his previous role due to the failure to approve the first version of the Framework Law. After this incident, Guillermo Francos took the reins in negotiations with opposition blocs, while De Marchi maintained a low profile in his position until his recent appointment at Aerolíneas Argentinas.
In his new role at the flagship airline, De Marchi will accompany President Fabián Lombardo at a delicate time marked by conflicts with unions and the intention to privatize the company. "This morning, the Shareholders' Assembly of Aerolíneas Argentinas appointed Omar De Marchi as director and vice president of the company's board," the airline informed in a statement.
De Marchi, a lawyer from the National University of Córdoba with an MBA in Senior Business Management from Francisco de Vittoria University in Madrid, is recognized for his extensive experience in the legal and business fields, as well as for having held prominent positions in the legislative and executive powers at both provincial and national levels. His knowledge is expected to contribute to the ongoing transformation process at Aerolíneas Argentinas.
As a consequence of De Marchi's departure, it was announced that his position in the Secretary of Parliamentary Relations will be filled by PRO member Oscar Moscariello, former legislator of the City of Buenos Aires and current Secretary General of the Progressive Democratic Party.
