Audit at the University of Buenos Aires

The General Syndicate of the Nation will initiate an audit at UBA due to irregularities in the management of its budget. This process will review internal controls and the use of funds.

Audit at the University of Buenos Aires

The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) will be audited by the General Comptroller of the Nation (SIGEN), announced the official Miguel Bianco in a recent interview. In light of the detection of possible irregularities during the audit, the information will be verified with the corresponding authorities to avoid misunderstandings. If the irregularities are confirmed, the report will be referred to the Anti-Corruption Office and the Office of Administrative Investigations.

SIGEN informed UBA that it will begin audit work at the institution after university authorities did not respond to notifications previously sent by electronic means. Due to this lack of response, it was decided to deliver the notification physically to avoid further delays. The SIGEN team delivered the notice at the entrance desk of UBA's Rectory to initiate the audit process at the university.

UBA had been regularly audited by SIGEN until 2013 when the criteria changed not to interfere with university autonomy. However, this situation has recently reversed, allowing SIGEN to audit universities again. UBA will be the first university to be audited due to the significant budget it manages.

The audit process will begin with an analysis of the internal processes of each area, followed by an identification of the controls related to fund movements, which will subsequently be evaluated for their effectiveness. The destination and application of the funds will be reviewed, as well as the relevant documentation and possible subcontracting to third parties. Finally, a report will be generated that will be discussed with university authorities and then submitted to the Presidency of the Nation, the Chief of Staff, and the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
