The Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, has expressed his concern over the alleged violation of university students' rights due to the national universities' refusal to undergo audits. These statements came shortly after the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) rejected the intervention of the General Audit Office of the Nation (SIGEN) through a statement advocating for audits but opposing the intervention of the Executive.
According to Álvarez, UBA formally requested to be included in the 2025 Audit Plan by the General Audit Office of the Nation (AGN), thus demonstrating its interest in continuing to be audited. The undersecretary also mentioned a precedent in 2011 when SIGEN conducted an audit at UBA without detecting significant irregularities, highlighting the importance of maintaining these controls.
Álvarez explained that auditing is a fundamental tool for ensuring transparency in university institutions and mentioned cases of alleged irregularities at the University of Tucumán. In this regard, he emphasized the need to maintain normalcy and compliance with auditing processes to prevent any type of irregularity or mismanagement of funds in the university sector.
These statements occur in a context where the bicameral Accounts Review Commission, linked to the General Audit Office of the Nation and led by Deputy Miguel Ángel Pichetto, has recently been formed. This body acts as a link between the Legislative Power and the AGN, strengthening control and supervision mechanisms in the public sector.
