The co-head of the CGT, Pablo Moyano, and the general secretary of Truckers, Hugo Moyano, led a meeting of transport unions in which the call for a strike on October 30 was ratified. The decision will affect almost all activities in the sector, except for buses that will run normally, as the UTA will not join the strike.
At the meeting, which included various transport union leaders such as Juan Carlos Schmid, Juan Pablo Brey, Omar Maturano, and Pablo Birol, the protest against the austerity measures pushed by the government, the increase in fares after the elimination of subsidies, attempts to privatize Aerolíneas Argentinas, changes in the pension system, and the rise in poverty in the country was reaffirmed.
Additionally, it was confirmed that the state employees' union ATE will lead a 36-hour strike, starting with a mobilization on October 29 and continuing with participation in the national transport strike on the 30th. Alejandro Gramajo, general secretary of informal workers from UTEP, also expressed his support for the planned protest.
Union leaders agreed to continue seeking measures to address government policies, which they consider harmful to the more vulnerable sectors. The National Transport Table, recently created and bringing together unions from CATT and UGATT, led by the Moyano faction and UTA respectively, is responsible for calling the strike, apart from the decision of the buses to operate on the day of the protest.
