President Javier Milei praised four governors on Thursday for their work after La Libertad Avanza and its allied blocs managed to pass the mining reform to the Glacier Law into law. In a statement from the President's Office accessed by the Argentine News Agency, it stated: “President Javier Milei thanks the deputies and senators who supported this bill.” Likewise, he made a “special recognition to the governors Marcelo Orrego (San Juan), Raúl Jalil (Catamarca), Carlos Sadir (Jujuy), Gustavo Sáenz (Salta) and Alfredo Cornejo (Mendoza) for their coordinated work in drafting the bill.” In turn, he extended his gratitude “to the National Legal and Technical Secretary, María Ibarzabal Murphy, the Coordinator of Mining and Energy, Daniel González, and the Secretary of Mining, Luis Luceross and their respective teams, who, together, worked for a year on the elaboration and drafting of this reform.” The initiative that redefines the scope of glacier and periglacial zone protection and flexibilizes the conditions for resource exploitation was passed with 137 votes in favor, 111 against, and three abstentions.
