The UN Security Council failed on Tuesday to approve a resolution draft that 'strongly urges' interested states using commercial maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz to coordinate defensive efforts to help ensure the safety of navigation through that waterway, including by escorting merchant vessels. Eleven members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution draft, while China and Russia voted against, and Colombia and Pakistan abstained, Argentina News Agency was informed by Xinhua. The resolution draft was proposed by Bahrain in coordination with other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council: Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Jordan.
