Tucumán Court Expands Charges Against Influencer Who Used Governors' Data

A court in the Argentine city of Tucumán has expanded the charges against influencer Valentina Olguín, who used the tax identification numbers of governors to import luxury goods. According to the investigation, she illegally used the data of the governors of La Pampa, Sergio Ziliotto; Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof; and Entre Ríos, Rogelio Frigerio. Judge Guillermo Díaz Martínez decided to expand her prosecution on charges of smuggling by simulation. This decision covers 15 incidents. As reported by the Argentine News Agency, the accused used the personal data and CUIT numbers of governors to carry out imports. At the request of Federal Prosecutor Agustín Chit, it was established that “the influencer simulated operations before customs authorities to evade the limits of the courier import regime”. The figure of smuggling by simulation is provided for in customs criminal legislation and provides for sentences of 2 to 8 years in prison. The accusation states that the influencer provided false information to the tax collection agency ARCA with the deliberate purpose of obtaining an undue economic benefit, thus avoiding using her own annual customs quota for foreign purchases. During the investigation, various pieces of evidence were obtained, such as technical analysis of communications, examination of her electronic devices, and verification of mobile antenna signals that coincided temporally and geographically with the reception of the packages at her home at the time of delivery. By tracking shipments handled by FedEx, the Public Prosecutor's Office was able to determine that various international clothing purchases were sent to the accused's home address in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Núñez. The court rejected the defense's arguments, which claimed that the data used in the investigation came from a “random search on the internet,” considering that the repetition of the operations and the profile of the people involved allow us to dismiss the alleged lack of knowledge about the illegality of the schemes. The investigation originated from a complaint filed by Governor Jaldo, who on October 28, 2024, reported that his personal CUIT had been used without authorization to make purchases abroad. According to the file, the accused used the identities of the governors to receive packages of clothing from a US brand at her home address. Thus, the resolution highlights that, due to the seriousness and recurrence of these schemes, it was also decided to expand the embargo on the accused's assets to cover a sum of $15 million. In May 2025, the young woman had already been prosecuted, but only for using the Unique Tax Identification Number of the governor of Tucumán, Osvaldo Jaldo.
