Tucuman legislator presents project for emergency declaration due to floods

The Tucuman legislator from the Justicialist bloc, Gerónimo Vargas Ainasse, presented a project to declare a social and economic emergency in the province for 180 days due to floods affecting various localities. The initiative aims to assist families affected by the extraordinary climatic phenomenon, contribute to the recovery of affected economic, productive, and commercial activities, and facilitate the implementation of extraordinary actions to mitigate the social and economic effects of the emergency. According to the second paragraph, the extension can be extended for another six months. The Peronists Maia Martínez, Roberto Moreno, and Roque Argañaraz; the radical José Cano and Walter Berarducci, from Compromiso Tucumán, expressed their support for the project, which gives Governor Osvaldo Jaldo the power to apply possible measures to assist the victims. Affected individuals could receive “subsidies, direct financial aid, or special assistance programs” to favor “the recovery of living conditions and economic activity”. Precipitation recorded about 170 millimeters in the last few days, while 15,000 neighbors were evacuated, although 4,500 belong to the La Madrid locality. However, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) announced storms for the next few hours, with a probability close to 80%.
