Leonardo Airaldi, the former head of the Diamante Rural Society, will begin his trial tomorrow before the Federal Oral Court of Paraná, Entre Ríos, in the drug trafficking case against him. It is reported that he is behind a criminal plot for having paid a hitman from Uruguay to assassinate Federal Judge Leandro Ríos and Federal Prosecutor Ignacio Candioti in Punta del Este. The payment is said to have been USD 40,000. The accusation against the former head is that he was the leader, supplier, and financier of the said gang. Authorities highlight that in his role, Airaldi distributed tasks, administered human and material resources, and issued orders. Another point mentioned is that he had financial and logistical means for the acquisition, transport, distribution, and sale of drugs. Currently, Airaldi faces a new accusation. After Airaldi's transfer from Gualeguaychú to the Ezeiza prison was completed in the last few hours, the oral trial for drug trafficking will begin this Tuesday, where there are also 13 other accused. According to sources in the case confirmed to the Argentine News Agency, the court ruled that no further transfer would take place, so the former official will participate in the debate virtually, via Zoom. All are accused of having operated between June 2019 and March 2024 in the cities of Diamante and Paraná as a drug trafficking organization.
