Pilot Repairs Environmental Damage by Donating Footwear to Rangers

A pilot who flew improperly and without authorization over the Quebrada del Condorito National Park, in the province of Córdoba, had to repair the environmental damage caused in a curious way by delivering 30 pairs of technical footwear for the park's rangers. The measure was adopted with the intervention of the Office of Alternative Measures to the Criminal Process of Córdoba, led by prosecutor Carlos Gonella, whose coordinator is auxiliary prosecutor Gonzalo Fragueiro. The delivery of the equipment was made at the headquarters of the General Prosecutor's Office No. 2 before the Oral Courts in Criminal and Federal Matters of Córdoba, in the presence of representatives of the MPF; the legal representative of the National Parks Administration, Mariel Viviana Schneider; the intendant of the Quebrada del Condorito National Park, Elizabeth Tosca Gattolín; and the park ranger Nicolás Vallejos. The incident occurred on March 15, 2025, when an authorized park guide spotted a helicopter flying over a Conservation Area on two occasions and at low altitude, in the vicinity of the area known as "Baño del Cóndor", a site used by these birds for resting and preening. To this is added the risk of collisions with aircraft, which can lead to direct mortality. In this context, it was possible to identify the aircraft involved by its registration, highlights the report published on the Fiscales portal. Although the observed behavior is considered an offense in the Aeronautical Code, the Public Prosecutor's Office considered that the case met the conditions to reach an adequate resolution through the application of alternative measures to the criminal process, learned the Argentine News Agency. From there, conversations were held with the defense of the accused and with the representation of the National Parks Administration, and after various meetings, it was agreed to apply the institute of comprehensive reparation of the damage, through the payment of a sum equivalent to $9 million. However, and with the aim of providing a more effective response aimed at the concrete recomposition of the damage, the direct payment of money was ruled out and the park authority was consulted about its operational needs. As a result, it was decided to deliver 30 pairs of work shoes and high-quality safety footwear, which will be distributed among the park rangers for the development of their daily tasks. The authorities explain that in the area where the overflight occurred is under environmental protection because "the disturbance caused by low-altitude overflights in sites used by condors can generate significant stress, induce the abandonment of rest areas and alter behavior patterns and physiological processes that negatively impact their health.
