The Minister of Security and Justice of Chubut, Héctor Iturrioz, confirmed this Thursday that there are four open cases regarding the fires registered in the western part of the province. According to experts, these fires were intentional, although there are «no accused» at the moment.
The official confirmed the specialists' version and stated that the outbreaks that originated in recent days in the Andean region were «deliberately» set. «Work is being done on establishing authorship, but there are no accused yet».
Currently, the judicial panorama is divided into four files that attempt to reconstruct the origin of the flames: according to the EQS portal, one of the most relevant cases is the one investigating the fire in Los Alerces National Park, which is being handled by the Federal Court, as it involves national lands, while the other three investigations remain under the jurisdiction of the ordinary justice of Chubut, led by prosecutor Carlos Díaz Mayer.
According to information from the Argentine News agency, the simultaneous outbreak of the last three foci during the previous week raised the suspicions of the authorities. Precisely, the origin of these foci occurred a few days after the authorities confirmed that they had brought other previous fires under control.
Therefore, these fires «reveal an intentional origin», as was concluded during a meeting convened by the inter-institutional technical body between the National Parks Administration (APN) and the Federal Emergency Agency (AFE) of the Ministry of Security.
«There are four open cases,» Iturrioz stated in statements to the local press and added, «It has been objectively ruled out that it was accidental, it is intentional».
