New Subway Strike in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Feb 6 (NA) – A new strike action will take place on Line A of the subway to demand the reinstatement of an employee who was fired weeks ago. This Friday, February 6, at 6:00 PM, the turnstiles at Plaza de Mayo station will be opened. Delegates and subway workers confirmed to the Argentine News Agency that passengers will be affected this Friday afternoon by a new day of action for the reinstatement of Araceli Pintos, an employee who was fired. The protest day «will include opening the turnstiles and activities to inform and raise awareness among users, demanding that the company Emova immediately reinstate Pintos, a worker who was discriminatorily fired after reporting a case of sexual harassment in her workplace by a city police officer». The Union Association of Subway and Premetro Workers (AGYSyP) states that said firing «constitutes an exemplary punishment and a direct threat to all female workers, seeking to impose silence in the face of the arbitrariness and violence suffered in the workplace. Far from protecting the victim, the company decided to protect those responsible and persecute the one who reported it». EMOVA's Statement «Emova announces, regarding the surprising measure announced at Plaza de Mayo station this Friday, February 6, by a group of delegates, that this type of action that the union has been carrying out is a response to the decision not to effectively incorporate an employee after her probationary period due to repeated failures in her tasks,» the statement indicates. Likewise, the concession company states that «all possible instances were complied with to avoid this situation».
