Argentina strengthens control over illegal fishing in its Exclusive Economic Zone. The new Directive 20/2026, published in the official bulletin, establishes clear criteria to identify foreign vessels engaged in illegal resource extraction.
Authorities emphasize that combining new rules with existing protocols enhances the state's ability to protect fish resources under serious pressure from foreign fleets operating at the edge of Argentina's maritime zone.
«This measure allows more precise distinction between illegal fishing and legitimate free navigation rights,» official representatives stated.
The Argentine Naval Prefecture will use the «Guardacostas» system to track routes, speeds, and vessel maneuvers in sensitive areas. This will enable evidence collection for sanctions.
The document also strengthens the legal framework for action against violators while avoiding diplomatic conflicts. Argentina positions itself as a leader in combating illegal fishing, already recognized internationally.
