Buenos Aires, Feb 6 (NA) – César Alejandro Cervantes, the driver who ran over and killed firefighter Matías Di Paolo in El Palomar last December, admitted in his expanded statement that he had consumed marijuana hours before the tragedy.
The accused is currently detained under preventive detention.
Before prosecutor Matías Javier Rappazzo, of the Functional Instruction Unit No. 7 of the Morón Judicial Department, Cervantes expanded his testimony and recounted what he did the weekend before the incident and what happened on the night the event occurred, as confirmed by the Argentine News Agency.
On Saturday, December 13, he was at home preparing for his daughter's birthday celebration when friends offered him marijuana: "I am not a habitual consumer, only occasional, and that day I took two or three puffs."
Then, regarding Sunday, he commented that it was a normal day and that on Monday he returned to work: "When I arrived home at noon, we started washing the pickup trucks and it was already five in the afternoon, and since one of the trucks was at the mechanic's, I went to see it in the town of Ituzaingó until approximately 8:15 PM."
"I was returning home by the Access West collector road, I turned onto Route 4, then onto Camargo and along Marquez Avenue."
