There is growing fear in the Buenos Aires locality of Florencio Varela following attacks on three schools that were set on fire just days before the start of classes, affecting more than a thousand students. The first incident occurred on Sunday, February 2, when the Gustavo Roldán School was burned down, and seven classrooms were completely destroyed. The same scenario was repeated the next day at the Homero Manzi Secondary School, where electronic objects were also stolen. The last attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, February 5, when five classrooms at Primary School No. 54 were affected by fire and can no longer be used due to the advance of the flames. According to the Infosur news outlet, municipal authorities have not yet issued any statement, and there are no arrests. According to the Argentine News Agency, local residents claim it is the same gang and that there is 'total abandonment' in the area. So far, only the Unified Union of Education Workers of Buenos Aires (SUTEBA) has issued a statement condemning the fires and declaring a state of alert before the School Council and municipal authorities.
