New Political Force Takes Shape in Argentina

A new political alliance is emerging in the Argentine Parliament, uniting deputies from different factions to promote a federal agenda and protect the national economy from foreign competition, creating an alternative to the current government.

New Political Force Takes Shape in Argentina

A new political group, connected with dialogist governors, is forming in the Argentine Parliament. The idea is to work on parliamentary consensus beyond the boundaries of party blocs, which sometimes limit the discussion of certain topics. Sources indicate that Kirchnerism, which controls the UxP bloc, does not typically prioritize the 'federal agenda,' necessitating the search for other political alliances without breaking existing blocs. This search is not expected to lead to a split in Unión por la Patria or realignments in the near term. However, it creates a space for dialogue. Two deputies from Encuentro Federal, Pichetto and Massot, were dissatisfied with the conditions for leading a new inter-bloc. Their crusade against the indiscriminate opening to Chinese imports, which destroys national competition and Argentine jobs, provides a perfect platform for the former senator to return to the Peronist narrative after years of self-imposed exile. Pichetto and Michel, a former advisor, have built a strong alliance to combat this issue. They are presenting legislative initiatives in unison to protect the national industry. Soon, Pichetto, Michel, and other Peronist deputies from the interior will meet at the Argentine Chamber of the Oilseed Industry to discuss the implications of the Mercosur-European Union trade agreement. A new industrialist bloc is forming, which could become a unifying factor and an alternative to the Milei government. Deputy Guillermo Michel's bill for the 'debt relief for Argentine families' has become the first visible political convergence of the 'Federales' group (Tolosa Paz) with deputies from different regions and even with Pichetto and Massot. The goal of 'Federales' is to pursue a federal agenda and collaborate with sectors outside of Unión por la Patria, without aiming for a rupture. 'The only way to challenge the Milei government is to grow, never to shrink,' sources concluded.
