Argentina Joins Peace Council in Davos

Argentina's President Javier Milei signed the country's accession to the Peace Council, an initiative by Donald Trump. This strengthens the political alliance with the US and positions Argentina within a new international structure aimed at conflict resolution, starting with Gaza.

Within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Javier Milei signed the formal integration of Argentina into the Peace Council, an initiative promoted by his US counterpart Donald Trump with the aim of preventing new conflicts in the Gaza Strip and subsequently advancing to other global scenarios.

The Argentine leader's participation was highlighted during the ceremony: Milei stood next to Trump, exchanged a few words with him, and was one of the first heads of state to sign the document that gave rise to the body.

In addition to Argentina, the Council includes nations such as Hungary, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Albania, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates, in a context marked by diplomatic tensions between the United States, Canada, Greenland, and several European countries.

The Council—also referred to as the "Peace Board"—will be chaired by Trump, who will have the power to define admissions, potential vetoes, and lines of action.

There, the US president highlighted that it is a "historic and truly transcendent" effort to consolidate lasting peace and advance with a novel approach to resolving international conflicts.

With the signing in Davos, Argentina was officially incorporated into the new international scheme, a political signal that reinforces the government's alignment with the US foreign policy agenda and positions the country within an organization that promises to have weight in the redefinition of the global board.

Each member country must make a contribution of 1 billion dollars, initially earmarked for reconstruction tasks in Gaza.

Days before the signing, Milei had shared on social networks the invitation letter sent by Trump, in which Argentina is called upon to join the Council as a founding member state.

The proposal is based on resolution 2803 of the United Nations Security Council, approved on November 17, 2025.

In a first stage, the body will be oriented towards promoting peace and transition in the Gaza Strip, although in recent days it has been indicated that its scope could be expanded to global conflicts.

The event began around 7 in the morning (Argentine time), as part of the official agenda of the meeting being held in Davos.

According to reports, at least 52 countries received invitations to join the initiative.
