What are the six key points of the new Córdoba traffic law?

Mandatory Use of Low Beams or Daytime Running Lights

t all times, vehicles must travel with their lights on on all marked sections, national and provincial routes, and in tunnels. The initiative seeks to address the growth of the vehicle fleet and technological changes that impact how people travel on Córdoba's roads and cities. The reforms incorporate modern criteria for traffic control, the use of digital tools, and the updating of enforcement and sanction systems, with the goal of strengthening road accident prevention.

In this context, according to what Argentine News Agency could learn, the regulation aims to promote responsible behavior, reduce violations, and ensure safer circulation for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Complaints about the poor condition of the roads do not cease: "Everyone goes where they want."

With these modifications, Córdoba reinforces its commitment to a comprehensive road safety policy, aligned with current standards and focused on protecting life. The update of the law represents a key step towards a more efficient, transparent, and needs-based traffic system, directly impacting road coexistence and public safety.

Violations can be communicated at the address declared on the driver's license or in the driver's electronic administrative office. Likewise, automatic lighting systems that turn on when the vehicle is started are allowed. Another key point in this item is that in adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, fog, smoke, or dust, the use of low beams is mandatory, as are fog lights if applicable. If the driver fails to comply, they will be given a preventive warning.

Digital and Electronic Controls

In this case, the law permits the use of digital technology and electronic devices, either in person or remotely, for the following cases:

Detect and verify traffic violations.

Record film, photographic, or digital evidence.

Validate violations committed on routes, tolls, and traffic corridors.

Electronic Notifications

Now, violations can be communicated in two ways: at the address declared on the driver's license, or in the driver's electronic administrative office.

Changes in the Adjudication of Violations

In the event that the driver's domicile is more than 60 kilometers from the court intervening in the violation case, the defense can be made in the jurisdiction of their domicile, as long as it is registered; but, in general, violations will be judged where they were committed. Likewise, in cases where people live outside the province, the use of digital identity through the Digital Citizen platform is anticipated, among other systems established by the regulation.

New Recidivism Criterion nThe new concept added to the provincial law states that if a person commits new violations before the previous sanction becomes final, the competent authority can take preventive or precautionary measures, consider classifying recidivism as an aggravating factor when defining the sanction, evaluating the severity, the temporal proximity between infractions, and the risk generated.

Update of the Sanction Regime

While the law maintains the categories of violations as: minor, serious, and very serious, it expands and orders the table of violations and sanctions and adds sanctions such as community service and special instructions, such as mandatory attendance at road safety courses or educational programs.

In addition to warnings, as a formal notice without a fine, which is counted in case of recurrence.

And in the case of motorcycles, they must have low beams or daytime running lights on all day and everywhere.
