A river patrol arrested four people, one adult and three minors, and also seized a cargo of almost 26 kilograms of cocaine base paste that they were transporting in a boat on the Bermejo River, near the city of Orán, located 277 kilometers northeast of Salta. The arrests were made when members of the “Núcleo” Section of Squadron 20 “Orán” spotted an inflatable vessel moving along the river's current from Bolivia to Argentina, occupied by four individuals. According to Noticias Argentinas agency, when they were ordered to stop, they made abrupt maneuvers and tried to speed up, but a few meters away the boat collided with the local vegetation. Immediately, the gendarmes apprehended those involved and searched the vessel, in which there was a burlap bag containing rectangular packages, similar to those used for the transport of narcotics. In total, 25 kilograms and 955 grams of cocaine base paste were seized, distributed in 25 “bricks”, while the adult citizen was detained and the minors were handed over to their families at the Aguas Blancas international border crossing, which marks the limit between the two countries.
