Argentine lawmakers from libertarian, UCR, and Civic Coalition blocs called on Thursday for the release of gendarme Nahuel Gallo, detained in Venezuela since 2024, echoing the national government's request to the country's authorities.

The request came after Venezuelan parliament president Jorge Rodríguez announced the release of a "large number" of opposition political prisoners.

Lawmakers Silvana Guidici of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) and Karina Banfi of the UCR demanded the release of Gallo and Dario Giuliani today, aligning with the government's stance, as reported by the Argentine News Agency (NA).

"We demand the immediate release of Argentines Nahuel Gallo and Germán Darío Giuliani, arbitrarily detained in Venezuela. We want all of them to be free!"

"We especially hope that Nahuel Gallo and Germán Giuliani are released. There should be no conditional release for anyone. They should never have been imprisoned," Silvana Guidici said on social media X.

She added that "we also demand the freedom of all Venezuelans deprived of their liberty for political reasons."

Civic Coalition lawmaker Maximiliano Ferraro also demanded "freedom for political prisoners in Venezuela" in a post on X.

Ferraro had stated on Wednesday that "in Venezuela, there are more than 1,000 people deprived of their liberty for political reasons, many of them in situations of forced disappearance. Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo is one of them."

In turn, lawmaker Karina Banfi expressed her wish that "they are all released. We want them back home, with their families."
