In the Argentine province of Catamarca, the construction and paving of a strategic road is underway, aimed at improving road safety, optimizing regional connectivity, and consolidating a key tourist corridor between Catamarca and Salta. Work is being carried out on Provincial Route 43, in the department of Antofagasta de la Sierra, on the section that connects the town of Antofagasta de la Sierra with the interprovincial border with Salta. These tasks correspond to Section I of the project, which extends from kilometer 0, in Antofagasta de la Sierra, to kilometer 60.3. The paving of the roadway is one of the tasks under construction on Provincial Route 43 in Catamarca. In this way, it is consolidated as a strategic work that combines infrastructure, road safety, and tourist development, positioning the region as a key corridor of northern Argentina. Among the works in progress are: Construction of embankments. Formation of the base with rocky aggregate. Paving of the roadway. Execution of shoulders. These tasks are fundamental to guaranteeing a more stable, safe, and suitable-for-all-vehicles trace. From the point of view of road safety, the work will allow reducing risks associated with dirt roads, such as skidding, low visibility due to dust, and premature deterioration of the roadway, especially during times of rain or flooding. In addition, the paving of Route 43 will strengthen the territorial integration of western Catamarca, improving access to services, facilitating the transport of local production, and shortening travel times between localities. The impact on tourism is one of the central axes of the project, since Antofagasta de la Sierra is a gateway to landscapes of high natural value, such as volcanoes, salt flats, lava fields, and high-altitude lagoons, destinations that attract more and more national and international visitors. Therefore, having a paved road will allow expanding tourist circuits, promoting safer excursions, and stimulating investment in infrastructure, accommodation, and services, generating local employment.
