A man with initials R.O.U. will be detained on preventive charges for the attempted murder of his ex-partner's daughter with an iron hammer. The woman was sleeping with her minor son in an apartment in the city of Elisa, Santa Fe province. As reported by the Argentine News Agency and described by the Public Prosecution of Salta, the incident occurred on December 14th. The accused, 61, is at the disposal of Judge Cecilia Álamo after a remote hearing. The investigation is led by prosecutor Hemilce Fissore, who requested that the accused be held in pretrial detention. The judge granted this request without setting a maximum term for the measure. According to the prosecutor, 'the crime was committed around 14:00' when 'the accused entered the home where the victim was sleeping in a room with her minor son.' Fissore specified: 'He took advantage of the woman's vulnerable situation and attacked her with an iron hammer and a knife in different parts of her body with the aim of killing her.' 'With his actions, the accused intended to cause suffering to his ex-partner and the mother of the assaulted woman. The incident is framed in a clear context of gender-based violence. His intention was not consummated due to reasons beyond his control, and the victim managed to escape after being helped by neighbors in the public street,' the prosecutor concluded. The accused faces charges of qualified attempted homicide and linked femicide.
