At the Mercosur summit in Foz do Iguaçu, the bloc's leaders and allies affirmed their support for Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Malvinas, condemning the UK's economic activities and urging a peaceful resolution via the UN.

In the declaration, the leaders "recognized the right of Argentina to promote legal actions" against any unauthorized activity in the area, invoking International Law to defend the natural resources that belong to the country's continental shelf. The leaders agreed to make a new approach to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to "renew efforts to resume negotiations and achieve a peaceful solution in the shortest possible time", seeking to break the deadlock in bilateral dialogue. Finally, Mercosur and its allies validated the capacity of the Argentine State to protect its interests in its territory. During the 67th Summit of Heads of State held in Foz do Iguaçu, the leaders of Mercosur approved a special declaration to reaffirm their support for the position of the Argentine Republic regarding the Malvinas question. The document, signed by the leaders of the bloc and its Associated States, renews the support for "the legitimate rights of the Argentine Republic in the sovereignty dispute", consolidating a unified regional stance on the historic claim. One of the central points of the agreement is the firm rejection of any kind of economic activity by the United Kingdom in the disputed area. Thus, the heads of State expressed their opposition to "the adoption of unilateral measures" related to the exploitation of natural resources, warning that these actions undermine the stability of the region and previously assumed international commitments. In this sense, the leaders warned that the British presence for extractive purposes in the South Atlantic is not in line with global regulations. The text highlights that "any unilateral exploration of renewable and non-renewable natural resources" carried out in the area under dispute "is not compatible with UN General Assembly Resolution 31/49", which urges both parties to refrain from introducing unilateral changes to the situation. Likewise, the summit resolved to escalate the demand before international organizations to accelerate a diplomatic resolution.
