Argentina Government Declares Public Holidays for State Workers

The National Executive Branch has declared a public holiday for national public administration personnel on December 24 and 31, 2025. This measure, signed by President Javier Milei, states that state workers are not required to report to their workplaces on the eve of Christmas and New Year. However, the decree clarifies that the provision does not apply to banking entities or financial companies subject to the Financial Entities Law. According to the reasoning of the norm, the heads of each jurisdiction will determine the personnel who must provide minimal guard services to ensure the fulfillment of essential services. Critical areas such as health, security, and citizen services must maintain minimum operational staffing. The decree is based on the powers conferred upon the Executive Branch to organize the functioning of the public administration and establishes that minimal guards must guarantee the continuity of services considered indispensable for the population. The norm will come into effect upon its publication and will apply to all centralized and decentralized state agencies at the national level.
