The Argentine Republic strongly condemns the terrorist attack carried out today in Sydney, Australia, which caused fatal victims and numerous injuries, in an act of violence directed against innocent civilians, particularly against Jewish families who were gathered to celebrate Hanukkah. The Argentine Government expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and shows its solidarity with the people of Australia, especially with the Jewish community, the target of this attack motivated by hatred and intolerance. Argentina reaffirms that antisemitism constitutes a serious threat to democratic coexistence and fundamental values and reiterates its absolute condemnation of any form of terrorism and violent extremism, whatever its motivation or place of occurrence. Finally, the country renews its commitment to the protection of religious communities and freedom of creed, as well as to international cooperation to prevent, combat and eradicate terrorism in all its manifestations.
